Architectural historian who grew up above an azulejo workshop

Inês’s grandfather restored azulejo tiles for Lisbon’s churches, and she spent her childhood in the dust of his workshop. She went on to study architectural history, then realised her favourite lectures were the ones she gave walking backwards through Mouraria.
Her walks go through courtyards, stairwells and rooftop laundries that guidebooks legally cannot find — she asks the owners, usually over coffee, often because she already knows them.
