Search-and-rescue volunteer, raised in a Reykjanes fishing village

The Blue Lagoon is a spa. This is Iceland. Sigrún grew up on the Reykjanes peninsula and knows the hot pots that appear on no map — a warm river bend behind a lava ridge, a stone-lined pool her grandfather helped dig, a steaming cove that fishermen have used for a century.
She reads the weather in the morning and picks the two best springs for the day. In her 4x4 you’ll cross lava fields and black-sand tracks between soaks, with wool blankets, dry bags and a thermos of cocoa that never runs out.
In winter, evening departures chase the northern lights from the water. There are worse ways to see them.

“Iceland is not a checklist. It’s weather, soup, and knowing when to wait twenty minutes.” — Sigrún Jónsdóttir
A hot spring entirely to ourselves while the aurora came out. I still don’t fully believe it happened.
Not another human being in sight for five hours. Sigrún is the calmest, most capable person I’ve ever met.
