Northern lights bus tours drive to a car park and hope. Sigrún reads the cloud radar the way her father read fishing weather, and drives her 4x4 to wherever the sky is actually open — sometimes a black beach, sometimes a mountain pass, once memorably a friend’s sheep farm.

While you wait she pours soup her mother made that afternoon, and teaches you to photograph the aurora on whatever camera you own. If the sky stays shut, you come again another night for free — she has the flexibility big operators can’t offer.

✨ Highlights

  • Route decided by live cloud radar, not itinerary
  • Max 6 guests in a private 4x4

  • Free second night if no lights

“Iceland is not a checklist. It’s weather, soup, and knowing when to wait twenty minutes.” — Sigrún Jónsdóttir

She scrapped the plan for wind and improvised something better. That’s what local knowledge buys.

Clouds won night one; the free retry two nights later delivered a full green sky. Honest and generous setup.
